The Hotel Zaltbommel Multimedia Corridor is a hybrid building which evolved out of a commission for a hotel and two office buildings. Its site is more political-geographical than natural. It lies along the A2 within the city of Zaltbommel adjacent to the border of the Province of Brabant.
Originally planned as three separate mono-functional buildings, Hotel Zaltbommel explores the possibility of a building to create a self-sustaining mini-urbanity.
At the end four different volumes for four different resident organizations have been created on a continuous plinth. The hidden potentials of the program have yielded a container-building, in which many facilities have been assembled and through their combination offer a richer environment than each could individually. HZMMC thus is an experiment in the feasibility of creating a commercially viable symbiotic hybrid in which the combining of ”unrelated” programs results in an increase in stability and quality, not just size.
