This project deals with some of the pertinent housing issues of today, the needs of specific social group: elderly. The house must accommodate working from home, eventual retirement and visiting family.
The house is situated on the ground floor and is divided into two zones: public and private. The work spaces are located on the lower ground floor and the independent visitor apartment on the first level. The simple configuration demarcates an outdoor space which brings light into the retirement house and forms a transition space which offers an alternative to the traditional suburban front garden. In total, the house is a closed box with an intimate interior but opens itself up to the private garden in the back. The project rejects the voyeuristic mechanisms and self-expressionism of suburban culture in favour of a more self-contained and anonymous urban lifestyle.
